Transcendtion

Horse Spirit

Transcendtion

Through the breakers I ride
low saddled to a high horse
cool tempered on a hot day

At the edge of waves I move
quickly
with the strength
of wild horses running through a small gorge
mountains punch the western sky before me
ringed in clouds

On a small rise I pause
horse breathing hard
as dust settles
looking back my eyes squint to find her

On a slim thread of sand
she swims
one ocean to another
with broad strokes
that manage to keep her afloat

She doesn’t look back
just pulls water behind her
with determined hands
swims to the end of the beginning
then back again
wondering if the tide will take her next time
fast
or slow.
