Sculpture of the Month #21 February 2022

I picked the sculpture for February as an inspiration for the coming spring. It shows a figure rejecting the bones of something that has died and breathing new life into verdant future about to set sail. The pea pod on the ship’s sail portends prosperity.

In February, the Sculpture of the Month acknowledged the collective cocoon of transformation and yearning for change we all share. Similarly, Groundhog Day comes this month on the 2nd. We are all like the groundhog, now, hoping we can finally come out of our pandemic burrows into a bright, inspiring, early spring, and release the sequestered life we’ve endured.

The February Sculpture of the Month invites us to embrace this transition into A New Beginning.

A New Beginning

So… To deeply appreciate those you love this Valentine’s Day, I encourage you to reach out personally. See if you can find the willingness to forego email and text, and instead, pick up the phone. Have live conversations with your loved ones, for these personal connections sustain and support us.

Later this month, we’ll also remember two of our most significant presidents, Washington and Lincoln, both born in February. So let’s also appreciate the courage it takes to maintain a dynamic democracy and live in peace with our differences, as we move into the future together.

When we allow ourselves to listen and share with one another, it breathes life into our commitments – both personal and, yes, political – strengthening our friendships and the country we all care about.

So, I hope this sculpture, or perhaps one of my others, motivates you to begin something inspiring this year!
