Sculpture of the Month #12 May 2021

It’s hard to believe I began the Sculpture of the Month series almost a year ago. This month marks the 12th piece I’ve featured. Hooray!

So far, I’ve always chosen yet-to-be-sold works for this series; however, for the next several editions of the Sculpture of the Month, I plan to feature pieces owned by private collectors, since folks are no longer able to see them in person at my shows.

Wisdom to Balance

Wisdom to Balance centers on a man who appears to receive pearls of wisdom from a shaman as he becomes surrounded by visions about rebalancing our lives with the natural world.

I sold Wisdom to Balance several years ago to my friend Don Mitchell, a V.P. at ECORP, the company that bought my habitat restoration consulting business in San Diego. Don was inspired by the sculpture’s message, and it hangs opposite his desk, reminding him to keep the principle of balance in his work defending the environment.

It seems to me that, when we balance our pursuits in the world of humans with our care for the rest of the natural world, we feel most fulfilled. So, I find it fitting that someone like my friend Don – whose work is dedicated to restoring balance with the natural world – should have this piece in a place of honor in his office.

Much has happened since I began the Sculpture of the Month. As Spring now returns, with many people vaccinated against Covid, our social lives and nature both appear to be opening up together!

May the blooms of Spring surround you with nature’s beauty, the wonder of new life, and a gentle reminder to keep your balance as we move forward together in living connection.

Bountiful Blessings
